The conversation based CELL classes focus on improving fluency
and accuracy
particularly in speaking and listening skills and seek to fit the interests
and levels
of students in a small group setting.
Upon registration, students take a level test and receive
assessment on a gradient
from basic to advanced levels. Students at lower language levels begin
with a
series of textbooks to follow which emphasis building up communication
skills
through speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Intermediate to advanced classes focus on conversation and
discussion skills
with content based on various issues and themes. Materials for the class
come from resource books,
Internet articles, and newspapers.
Activities give opportunity for students to gain functional
language skills through various media
(DVD, TV shows, and current events), cultural experiences (cooking or
music), presentations, or readings.
Due to small class sizes of no more than six students, close relationships
between teachers and students
often result and bring interest into topic discussions and conversation.
